Our business is all about people and as such our staff are super important to us. We have crafters, book worms, mountain bikers, cooks, runners, gamers, movie buffs, dancers and everything in-between. Family people, single people, couples and happy and caring people. Whilst working with us you can be guaranteed to find individuals with similar interests and make friends for life.

Situated at the edge of Wistlandpound Reservoir, among beautiful pine forests and rippling streams, our fully accessible centre offers high quality facilities and professionally adaptive accommodation, all nestled within the rolling hills of Devon’s Exmoor National Park.

Due to the remote location, having a car or easy transport to the Calvert Exmoor centre is essential for any position.

The role of Marketing Manager

Following an incredibly successful fundraising appeal this summer, it’s the start of a new chapter at Calvert Exmoor and we’re looking for a brilliant marketing manager to play a pivotal role in the charity’s development.

With an exceptional new board of trustees in place, you will have the opportunity to make a huge impact on the future of the organisation. There’s never been a more exciting time to join us!

This brand-new role is critical in promoting our mission and will require you to develop and implement multi-channel marketing campaigns to reach diverse customer groups, including families, schools, and community organisations.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in working closely with sales teams to achieve shared goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the marketing strategy: Working closely with the Centre Director, senior team and Board where appropriate, develop a marketing strategy aligned to the organisation’s goals – encompassing both booking and fundraising activities
  • Develop and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns: Design engaging and effective campaigns across various channels, including digital marketing (website, social media, email), print advertising, public relations, and events, tailored to effectively reach different customer segments, including families, schools and groups
  • Lead PR & communications activities: Both internally and externally, leveraging opportunities to maximise and amplify the reach of the organisation through local, national and trade press as well as communities, charities, founders and beyond
  • Lead and inspire the team: Provide leadership, guidance and development for the marketing and content team; setting objectives, managing performance and providing coaching
  • Collaborate with the sales team: Work closely with the sales team to align marketing efforts with revenue goals and ensure a seamless customer journey from initial awareness to booking, through their trip and the re-booking process
  • Support fundraising: Work with the fundraising team to effectively share guest stories, create compelling campaigns and support fundraising drives like The Big Give as well as building long term relationships with donors/funders
  • Manage marketing budget: Plan and manage the marketing budget effectively to maximise campaign effectiveness and ROI
  • Analyse marketing performance: Track, measure, and analyse the performance of marketing campaigns, the quality of the database and other key metrics in order to optimise future performance
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends: Continuously research and stay informed about best practices, emerging trends and platforms across the marketing landscape, particularly in the travel, outdoor education and charity sectors

What you will need:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing, preferably in the travel or charity/non-profit sector
  • Team management/leadership experience
  • Strong understanding of on and off-line marketing strategies and tools
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience working with sales teams to achieve shared objectives
  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field is desirable
  • Passion for promoting accessibility and inclusion

Location:

Hybrid including some regional travel.

The role of Instructor:

Our Instructor team are dynamic, guest-focused leaders. As a Calvert Exmoor staff member, you will be part of a fun, supportive team and will strive toward excellence.

As part of our Instructor team, you will have a good understanding of group management, risk and challenge. Our Instructors are proactive, multi-activity leaders. You will predominantly be delivering multi-activity programmes to those with disabilities and vulnerable groups. We believe in striving for high-quality outdoor provision and aim to keep our instructors with the same visitors throughout their stay.

You will be required to work some overnight duties and evening activity sessions which are shared amongst the instructional team on a rota system.

What you will need:

Essential National Governing Body Qualifications:

  • CWI & Ab
  • PSI

Ideally you will also have one of the following:

  • BC Paddlesport Leader
  • MIAS
  • RYA Dingy/Senior Instructor
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2
  • Archery GB Instructor

Essential personal attributes:

  • Positive and solution based
  • Proactive and reliable
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Passionate about working with a variety of people with disabilities
  • Passionate about outdoor recreation being available to all
  • Able to lead a fun, multi-activity programme

Desirable skills & qualifications:

  • Experience or knowledge of working with people with disabilities
  • Experience working at a residential outdoor centre
  • Accessible bike, canoe, sailing or powerboat maintenance knowledge or skills
  • Experience with RYA Sailability clubs or programmes
  • Degree in Outdoor Education, social work or similar
  • Current First Aid At Work
  • Pool Responder

Job type: Full-time 35 hours per week average plus overnight duties

Season length: Beginning February to end of November 2025

Salary: £24,795 pa

Location: Wistlandpound, Kentisbury, Barnstaple EX31 4SJ
