The role of Instructor:

Our Instructor team are dynamic, guest-focused leaders. As a Calvert Exmoor staff member, you will be part of a fun, supportive team and will strive toward excellence.

As part of our Instructor team, you will have a good understanding of group management, risk and challenge. Our Instructors are proactive, multi-activity leaders. You will predominantly be delivering multi-activity programmes to those with disabilities and vulnerable groups. We believe in striving for high-quality outdoor provision and aim to keep our instructors with the same visitors throughout their stay.

You will be required to work some overnight duties and evening activity sessions which are shared amongst the instructional team on a rota system.

What you will need:

Essential National Governing Body Qualifications:

  • CWI & Ab
  • PSI

Ideally you will also have one of the following:

  • BC Paddlesport Leader
  • MIAS
  • RYA Dingy/Senior Instructor
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2
  • Archery GB Instructor

Job type: Full-time 35 hours per week average plus overnight duties

The role of Senior Instructor:

As Senior Activity Instructor, you are responsible for the provision of the high quality experience we provide to all our guests.

You will deliver activities according to NGB and Health and Safety guidelines; you will be responsible for the care storage and maintenance of activity equipment and for helping to develop/maintain these where applicable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead the provision of activities in accordance with the operating procedures in the Instructor Handbook and supporting training.
  • Night duty responsibilities.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of guests and staff in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Care, storage and issue of equipment.
  • Maintenance of activity equipment.
  • Ensuring activity areas are kept well maintained and secure.
  • Enthusiasm to see continual centre development, you’ll be looking for opportunities to make our guest experience better each year.
  • Support the work of all departments in the centre as prioritised by your manager.
  • Assistance with general duties and other work as deemed appropriate.
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of our guests and the centre.
  • Keep up to date with all governing body memberships and legislation as appropriate.

Additional Senior Activity Instructor responsibilities:

  • Lead any procedures in an emergency (if required)
  • Make team leadership decisions in the Chief instructor’s and the Operations Manager’s absence.
  • Lead morning and end-of-day meetings in the absence of the Chief Instructor and Operations Manager.
  • Make sure all incidents, equipment breakages, programme changes, illnesses and other specific information are logged in the diary, in relevant forms and online systems.
  • Review rotas and manage and help resolve unforeseen last-minute staffing challenges using resources available in the absence of the Chief Instructor and Operations Manager.
  • Advise on equipment that needs replacing and support ad hoc projects.
  • To be responsible alongside the Chief Instructor for safety checks, maintenance, logging, equipment damages, training, and general upkeep of the centre activities.
  • To ensure the instructors are always acting within their training and flag any additional training needed to ensure safe activity provision through observation and feedback.
  • Assist the Chief Instructor with activity signoffs, observations, and training records.
  • Feedback and brief information to the Chief Instructor once returned to work.
  • Actively support and encourage other departments.
  • Other duties as commensurate with the post

The role of Kitchen Assistant

Overview of the role

This role focuses on managing the entire booking process, from enquiry to confirmation, while driving revenue and promoting Calvert Exmoor to new and existing audiences. It involves providing exceptional customer service, collaborating with Marketing to refine campaigns, and ensuring a seamless booking journey with the Guest Services team.

Key duties include maximising sales, nurturing guest relationships for repeat business, maintaining market awareness, and managing all booking correspondence with professionalism and efficiency.

Essential:

The role of Senior Management Accountant

As Senior Management Accountant at Calvert Exmoor you will be required to reduce the complexity of and deliver accurate financial reporting, supply information to relevant financial bodies, assist the Finance Manager with streamlining existing processes and ensure that the finance function can continue to run effectively at all times.

Key responsibilities

  • To oversee the production and audit of the Annual Financial Statements
  • To assist the Centre Director wherever possible in ensuring compliance with all financial bodies
  • To oversee and support the preparation of the annual and monthly budgets and forecasts
  • To deliver change management through the finance function, including system processes and methodology to streamline the function and eliminate any inefficiencies
  • To work with the Finance Manager and income generating teams to ensure that the routine reporting system is automated wherever possible
  • Develop and monitor financial performance through KPIs and forward-looking reporting
  • To review reports where appropriate, comment on performance against budget and provide explanation for variances and recommendations where possible
  • To coordinate and be a key point of contact amongst with regards to all aspects of insurance
  • Deliver ad hoc financial modelling
  • To have sufficient knowledge of the day-to-day systems and processes to be able to stand in for the Finance Manager for short periods
  • Lead and manage the Finance Manager including regular performance and development reviews

What you will need

  • CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent or qualified by experience to the higher level
  • The ability to analyse complex financial information and provide insights
  • The ability to interpret and present financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
  • A strong understanding of UK charity law, tax regulations, and financial compliance
  • Proficiency in Excel, financial accounting systems, and software
  • Knowledge and experience of using Sage is desirable
  • The desire to simplify processes to improve business performance
  • Proven experience in financial process improvement
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
