Accommodation for Visually Impaired People
Our facilities are perfect for holidays for partially sighted or blind people. All located together on one user-friendly site, our accommodation borders a beautiful courtyard garden and offers fantastic facilities, such as a cosy bedroom with an en-suite, level-entry wet room. You can even take a dive in our swimming pool if you fancy a dip!
There’s also The Barn bar and Acland Room where you can kick back and enjoy free evening entertainment, a TV lounge, and a sensory room. Meals are included in the cost, and guests can eat in our conservatory and dining room or outside in our lush courtyard.
Throughout the building, we have widened doors and corridors, electric doors and lifts to the upper floors for easy navigation. And, of course, it goes without saying that registered assistance dogs are welcome.
Activity Holidays
At Calvert Trust Exmoor, you’ll quickly find there is a range of exciting outdoor activities for people with visual impairments to explore. One morning, you could delight in an exhilarating cycle ride around Wistlandpound Reservoir with the rest of your party, on one of our side-by-side tandem bikes, perhaps.
Then later, you might take part in accessible horse riding, driving a horse-drawn carriage, spending time in the stables with our specially trained riding instructors, getting to know our horses and helping with grooming.
Even more physically challenging activities like abseiling are adapted for people with visual impairments; guests will be guided by auditory cues from the instructors as they descend the steep slope. You can trust us when we say that when you reach the ground, you’ll feel a sense of achievement in your hard-worked muscles!
What to Expect
Once you’ve arrived, you can experience everything we offer on our site, whether that’s feeling the sun on your face with a few heart-racing outdoor activities or having indoor fun on rainy days!
To stay on schedule, you will be guided in a timely manner through all activities by our friendly, qualified staff who will ensure maximum safety. But don’t worry, the power is in your hands! We also ensure that the programme is flexible and adapted to suit you.
You can get a lot out of a residential trip to Calvert. Our activity programme is guaranteed to provide a fun time for every guest. We could even incorporate free time into your schedule so you can venture beyond Calvert’s activity centre and roam the scenic countryside of North Devon to your heart’s content.
We also provide advice on what places are most accessible on North Devon holidays for visually impaired people, including what locations are suitable not only for sight-related impairments but also for mobility issues, developmental disabilities and any other conditions. All guests, regardless of their ability, are treated with the utmost consideration and care.
After an exciting day of exploration, retreat to the cosy comfort of our adapted accommodation for some well-earned rest!
At Calvert Exmoor, we care deeply about ensuring people with visual impairments and other disabilities can find the perfect holiday that strikes a balance between accessibility and fun.
